  1. John Brennan of Ballinalour owns land and in one of his fields there is a fairy rath as the people around here call it. The rath is full of big trees and bushes and an earthen or clay ditch surrounds it with here and there a gap like an entrance. Water always lies around this place and there is a well close to it. The people who own any of these never cut trees for they think it would be unlucky. I never heard anyone say that anything was ever seen round these places.
