- In olden times the people known as pedlars travelled from one district to another selling their wares. They sold laces, thread, and delph. They told all the news everywhere they went. They lodged in certain houses in each district where they found great welcome. Some of the old women would stay in the houses for a couple of days knitting and telling stories. They travelled on foot and would carry their bundles on donkeys.
