    In the Summer of 1937 when cycling up Gallow's Hill an English cyclist who was touring perceived a country man beating an ass that was tugging at a heavy load. The man was using both bad language and an ash plant.
    The English chap dismounted and giving me his bike to wheel, he remonstrated with the ass-driver "Shame Pat, why don't you help the poor donkey up the hill", with that he shoved and tugged and coaxed the equipage forward till we came near Bully's Acre. He then took his bike and turning to "Pat" (whose real name was Andy), he exclaimed "What do you think of this". "Pat", scratching his head replied "Look at that, now, shure, I always knew it would take more than one ass to draw the load properly up that
