(continued from previous page)Ballyboy, in Killeen and in Killeigh but they are now discontinued. The fairs are held in a fair green in most towns. There is a toll to be paid if you stand in the green about threepence per head. When cattle are sold money is given this is called luck money. About half a crown is given for a cow, a shilling for store cattle, and sixpence for a sheep.
When an animal is sold it is marked many ways. Some have a long marking stick called a raddle, others put mud on the flank and others still cut the quarter with a scissors. When a horse is sold the halter is given away.
