  1. The local fairs are all held in the town, with the exception of one which is held in Gallen on 21st May each year. Buyers very often go out to country houses or to crossroads on the days before the fair to buy the animals, because they expect to get them cheaper. The "Fairs Committee" are trying to put a stop to this practice as it spoils the fairs.
    The fairs are supposed to be held on the "Fair Green" but they generally end up on the streets.
    There is no toll paid but the seller gives some money to the buyer which is called "Luck-penny. It is calculated according to the value of the animal sold.
