  1. Thatching and Basket - making:
    There are many thatched houses in this district. The leading thatcher in this district is Patrick Caulfield, of Derrica, Ferbane. He is also very good at making turf - baskets and kishs.
    Spinning and Weaving:
    Mrs. Egan of Keelogue spins sheep's wools and weaves it into thread. Then she knits garments from it.
    Iron Goods:
    The blacksmith in Ferbane named John Walsh makes ploughs. He also makes gates, fire - cranes, handles of churns and fire - tongs.
    The other blacksmith, Tim Egan, makes those also. Wheels are not made in forges, in this district.
    In olden times chimneys used to be made very wide. There are houses with lofts built over the fire. The size of the loft is about four yards long and two yards wide.
