  1. The Big Wind took place on the 6th January 1839. It did a lot of damage, it knocked so many trees that roads were blocked for weeks after. Houses and outhouses were knocked, roofs were taken off houses, carts were taken out of streets and sheds and carried many miles away. Fortunately after all the harm that was done there were not very many lives lost.
