    The house in which he taught was called 'The Bear's House'. It was thatched. The man who owned it was called "The Bear."

  2. About seventy-five years ago, the schools were not like now. The boys and girls went to the same school. Each one had to pay seven shillings every fourth month or they would not be taught. Anyone that liked could stay at home. It was women taught. They were very cross. Anyone that missed a word would get four slaps. Many boys stayed at home nearly every day.

  3. In the year 1862 Tubber Schools were built. They are situated between Moat and Clara in the townsland of Tubber. A teacher's residence was built beside them.
    When the school was first opened, the first teachers were Mrs. Smith and her Daughter Miss Smith. They taught for eighteen years. Then Mr and Mrs. Harriss took their places. Mr. Harriss taught for twelve
