  1. The local patron Saint of Rahan is Saint Carthage. The church is situated in the townland of Rahan in the Parish of Rahan in the Barony of Balllycowhan in the County of Offaly. St Carthage got the loan of a book from another Saint named Saint ColmCill. He coppied it into another book and when ColmCill heard about it he was vexed. He got the chief of the place to put St Carthage out the district Saint Carthage had a monastery.
