  1. St. Martin was a miller. It is said that he was ground up in a mill, and anyone who threshes on St. Martin's day will be killed or the mill will go on fire.

  2. St. Brigid was living on the Curragh. One day she went to a rich farmer and asked him to give her a patch of grassland to feed a cow. He asked her how much she wanted. She said as much as her mantle would cover. She spread out her mantle and it covered a large tract of land which was called the Curragh. That is how the Curragh was formed.
