  1. St. martins Day is on the first of September and on this day people kill something such as a hen or a duck and they go round all the stables on their farm and they drop the blood in each stable. They say that it keeps away sickness from all their stock and fowl and keeps them from dying. It is said to be unlucky to do any work on St. Stephen's day
