  1. There was a bush at the western side of Millgrove Bridge, Rathangan, Co. Offaly, called the Priest's Bush. During the Penal Days a priest used say Mass under it but it was cut down later.
    There was a battle on the hill of Kilnantic long ago between the Irish and the English. There is a field in Clonshannon, Rathangan, Co. Offaly, known as the Race-Course where racing used be held long ago.
    A lot of families in this district died during the famine. Some were found dead on the sides of the road from hunger.
