The moon, pursuing her aerial course,
    Seemed slipping on us down.
As front and rear, as left and right,
    We trampled on them down.
    Gentle zephers blowing around us,
    Seem to whisper "Bravo men."
    Loved freedom's shout o'er Slieve - na - man,
    Shall echo soon again.

Many is the mountain peak beamed high,
    And river rolled between.
The gallant men that trod that night,
    O'er moonlit mountain scene.
And never died their cherished hopes,
    They burn as freely still.
When first we climbed o'er Slieve - na - man,
    To join the "Moonlight Drill."
