    Deep silence reigned o'er Kilcash's vale,
    No sound was in the air,
    Each rustic swain in calm repose,
    Found rest from toil and care.
    The warbling tenants of the grove,
    In calm repose were still,
    When first we climbed up Slieve - na - man,
    To join the Moonlight Drill.
    II
    Fall in, dress up, keep heads erect,
    And look at your full height.
    To teach a soldier's gallant trade,
    I've called you here to - night.
    Sang out our captain, Rory Óg,
    No red coat clasped him to.
    For never lost in manly breast,
    An Irish heart so true.
