  1. In the Townsland of Brittas, on a hill overlooking the village of Glenbower, there is a cave which is a grim reminder of the Penal Days. It is cleverly concealed at the foot of a hill and it is very hard to locate it owing to the growth of bushes and furze around the entrance. Inside there is a rock which served the purpose of an Altar for many a hunted priest during the Penal Days. It also served as a hiding place for them when they were being mercilessly chased by Cromwell's soldiers.
