People use to gather cowslips and make dodge balls and you would see no shanks. It was a great pastime for girls in the Summer.- Collector

In olden times the boys used to make bugles out of straws. Where the knot would be on the straw, they split the straw and blow into it.Rattles
The boys and girls used to get tin boxes and put little stones into them. Then they put the lids on them and shook the boxes and they had rattles.Crosses
The boys got long "traneens" of hay and put the ends all together and twisted them. They made a little cross out of them then.(continues on next page)
