    In his early years he was a black-smith. At that time he was noted for making spades. He was a terrible man for drinking. He spent every penny he earned on drink and he gave up working at his trade. Then he went around the roads begging and selling ballads. He made a song about the Old Age Pension when it came in force first and he made another song about himself.
    He got some kind of disease and was removed to Shillelagh hospital and died there in the year 1908.
    Here are some of his lines about the Old Age Pension.
    The Old Age Pension is a hokes,
    of that I am really sure.
    They give it to the Farmers,
    No Pension for the poor.
