    I remember Granny (R.I.P.) died 1927 in her 90th year, also Mrs Michael Dunne (58) Courtnacuddy going to Jimmy Brien R.I.P. Bree to "leave their measure" for new boots". about 1907 M C Brennan Davidstown
    Wm. Brien, Scoby, used to make & still repairs boots.
    Most fathers of families in this district are the family cobblers & in a few instances a workman who is "handy" does some cobbling on rainy days.
    Michael Whelan, Butcher's Lane. Michael Ennis, Tomabosset are extra neat.
    Salt & water baths cure chilblains.
    Rabbit skins (with fur) used in large rough boots for insoles.
    An old felt hat is never thrown away, but similarly used.
    "Greasing" heavy working boots was more general up to lately than polishing them.
