  1. I was coming home from James
    Connor's, Oldcourt, one night from playing cards.
    It was a terrible dark and windy
    night, and as I went along under
    the trees on the "Causeway" road,
    branches and boughs of all kinds were falling around me. As I was coming down the Causeway hill, past the old Norman Castle,
    I heard, as I thought, the pattering
    of somebody in his bare feet behind me.
    I stopped and looked behind me, and could see nothing, so I went on again and still the pattering continued.
    I thought that someone was playing a trick on me, so I turned around suddenly and made a grab, and
