  1. Charlie Byrne of Irish Street,
    Ennscorthy, lived with his
    father and mother, who kept
    hackney cars.
Charlie was wan of his father's
drivers an' he got very fond
    of drink.
His father said he would not
give him charge of a horse and
car again unless he took the
    pledge, and bring him a
    certificate.
His mother told him to go to
the Late Fr Dunne, who was
    A.D.M. of Enniscorthy. So
Charlie set out with a good intention to go to the Manse.
On his way he met one of
    his evil companions who
asked him in for a drink.
