Long ago an ould man be the name of Tom Byrne and his wife Biddy lived in Doonooney.

Tom was an old hedge school master he used to go around from house to house teaching school.
One day he and his wife went to wixford with two ass-loads of hay.
The hey was to green and they could not get anyone to buy it and they had to bring it home again.
The ruins of the house where they lived can be seen still.
