    One time not very long ago, there lived two ould persons, Dick and Biddy at one side of Taghmon.

    One time not very long ago, there lived two ould persons, Dick and Biddy at one side of Taghmon.
    They were by trade basket-makers.
    One day they had no money.
    Biddy said that Dick could go west to seek his fortune, and when he would go into a house, he should cry and say, "Biddy is dead."
    Biddy should go east and say "Dick is dead" The two of them were to meet at a certain place on a certain day.
    The two of them set out.
    After a couple of days Biddy came to a farm-house. As she went in she began roaring and bawling.
    The farmer asked her what was wrong and Biddy said that her husband was dead.
    After a couple of minutes Dick came in cryin'.
    The farmer asked him what was wrong.
    He said Biddy was dead.
    The farmer brought him in to Biddy.
    "Now" sez the farmer "she's not dead at all, ye better go home and think
