About thirty years ago a young man was going to the fair, and before he started from home he went to the well.

While he was stopping across the field he put his foot across a mare that was laying down, and the mare got such a fright she jumped up and the man had not time to get off.
The mare started off across the fields and the man shouted to his sister Good-bye.
Maura, "I'm gone, I'm gone, the devil has me on his back"
When the mare came to the ditch, he fell off, and when he came to himself after his fright he said to himself "By jingo its not the old boy; its only Furlong's mare.
