  1. Once upon a time there was an old woman who travelled around from house to house begging her bread. She came to a certain house one day, and the owner was suffering from a violent toothache.
    The old woman promised to cure his pain on condition that he should wear a certain charm which consisted of some words written on paper. She forbade him ever to open the paper or read the words.
    The man took the charm, wore it, and as the old woman had foretold the pain which had been so violent ceased.
