  1. A Song - Darcy who Dare

    It being on the 4th of September, I was sent with a sack to Carnew.

    This song was composed and sung by Tim Grannells of Ballybeg, Ferns, Co. Wexford.

    It being the 4th of September,
    I was sent with a sack to Carnew,
    I mounted the back of a donkey,
    By which I got reason to rue.

    Through Kiltillnahane and through Munny,
    And then through Umrigar,
    John Greims swore an oath would surprise you,
    Hurrah for you Darcy who dare

    Soon I entered the village,
    I called for a bowl of strong tay,
    Gave three cheers for the Repeal of O'Connell,
    And there I made little delay.

    I settled things right in the village
    Jack Crowley held him by the rein,
    I tightened the girts of the saddle,
    And then cantered down the Mill-lane,

    Between Bobby's Brook and the sandsbanks,
    He lifted his heels in the sky,
    My foot it got caught in the stirrups
