  1. Matches were made in olden days at fairs.
    One man making at a fair said that the girl had a hundred
    pounds. "Well," says he, "She must be a road-maker's daughter."
    A hundred pounds was considered very high. Money was given as dowry. Stock was given also, even still.
    No marriages in houses, remembered.
    Wedding feasts are still held. It is held at the lady's house.
    Horn-blowing in the night by blackmen and "collacks". Hundreds of them still go.
    All kinds of strange dresses are worn.
    In some places they get refreshments. Half barrel especially for "blackmen."
    Hundreds go in places. They are not well behaved sometimes.
    There were only a few in the hauling-home.
    The horse racing home "with the ribbons" was only with the aristocracy.
    Wives did not ride on horse with husband.
    Given barn for dance.
