    Local Place-Names
The names of some fields on our farm are :-
The Common's field, ten-acre field, the pocket-field, Byrne's bog, the sand-pit field, the big moor, the little moor, and the car-house field.
The Common's field is so called because it was one time an old commons.
The ten-acre is so called because there are ten-acres in it.
The pocket-field is so called because there was a ditch pailing off one corner of it in the shape of a pocket.

  2. The dead man's field, Mullet's lawn, the round field, the grove field, the hill field, the sheep-pen field.
The dead man's field was so called because there was a man buried in it.
Mullet's lawn was so called because a man named Mullet lived there.
