    The following story was told to me by my father and he heard it told by an old man in the district
    Mr. John Kavanagh.
    Hunter Gowen, who resided at Mount St. Benedict was one of the bitterest of the Yoe-men of 1798.
    He spent most of his time hunting the Priests and the Catholics and he treated them badly.
    Many stories are related to us about him and this one refers to a priest's escape from him.
    This priest was going to a house on a sick call. Hunter Gowen came on his track and tried to catch up with him.
    The came to the Bann river which is very wide and Hunter Gowen thought that he would catch the Priest.
    The Priest jumped across the river by a miracle. Hunter Gowen tried to leap it after him and it is said that he
