    long ago there were seven or eight shoemakers in the district but now there are so many boot-factories and machines that there is very little work to be done by the hand.
    During the wet weather long ago the people wore clogs, which were made locally.
    They are still worn by the fishermen, but they are not made locally. They are made from wood and leather, and are very strong.
