  1. My Mamma told me that there are some people who are very lucky and shopkeepers are delighted to see them come into their shops on Monday morning because they bring good luck to them for the week.
When people are selling cattle or fowl they give the buyer a shilling or sixpence called earnest money.
The first Monday of the year is called Hansel Monday and on this day people exchange pennies and it is that these pennies will bring luck to their owners if they are kept.
