  1. There was a troop of English Soldiers, travelling toward Wexford in the Summer of '98.
    Some Pike men who knew that they were coming went in ambush just at Ferry-Carrig.
    They took off their caps and put them on top of their pikes and shoved them just over the ditch.
    The Soldiers saw the caps and thinking that the Rebels were there shot at them. A Shout of Victory went - up from them as they saw the caps fall. They jumped in over the ditch - But .... the Wexford men sprang on them. A hard fight followed, but the Pike-men had an easy victory.
