  1. In 1798 and in about the second week of the rising-out in Wexford, a band of soldiers came from Cork.
    They had to go through a road in the shape of a horse-shoe.
    Father Murphy's men knew this and they blocked-up one end of the road with iron and they got around the outside ditch of the road. They lay in wait for the soldiers.
    The latter came through the open end. When they were all inside, the Wexford-men blocked-up that end. The Pike-men then started to cut the reins of the horses and the horses went mad with terror.
    The leader of the soldiers was the only man who escaped.
