  1. At the far end of Spawell Road commonly called the Jail Road, down a little lane on the left side going out there is a little well and a pump.
    At one time this well supplied water to all the north end of the town
    An old woman used to carry the water in buckets - 2 buckets for a half-penny.
    She had a hoop round her waist and carried the buckets on this.
    The well was supposed to be a spa and from that the Road gets its name - Spawell Road.
