  1. At Clancy's of Kate's Cross, Murrintown, Barony of Forth, Wexford, there is a Penal Cross. It is made of wood and is a dark brown colour. It is 8 ins long, and the bar across is 2 1/2 ins wide.
Carvings on the front of the cross show a ladder, a sponge, a robin, a spear, nails, thorns, a lash and a bowl.
On the back is carved a small cross and the letters I-H-S are cut under it. 1740 is the date marked on it.
This cross was made by a member of the family in the Penal Times.
Long ago an old man who lived on the Mountain of Forth named Radford made Patrick's Harps.
My mother told me the above and I examined the cross by permission of the owner.
