  1. There are four forges in this parish, One in Murrintown, One in Johnstown, One in Drinagh, And one in Lightwater.
    The smith in Murrintown is Nicholas Devereux. His forge is situated in the village beside his own house in Murrintown. His forge has a felt roof and is small Two half doors give entrance. There is a big fire place in it and a bellows.
    The implements he uses in his work are an anvil, a sledge, a pincers and horse shoe nails
    He shoes horses and asses for the people of his district He mends broken ploughs, harrows spades, shovels, and horse shoes
    He binds wheels in the open air in the forge yard
    In '98 a man named Walsh owned the same forge in Murrintown and made pikes for the Insurgents
