  1. It was custom to light thirteen candles in house in which corpse was waked, till funeral would have passed by first Crossroad. Then they would blow out candles and give one each to neighbours, who would say a prayer for dead person when lit.
    They would carry coffin from Carne to Tacumshane, a distance of five miles on a bier.
    Two men dig grave, six feet deep. Lower coffin, cover with clay. Get a green sod, put it over grave and decorate it with flowers.
    No clergyman at grave long ago. People knelt down and said a prayer, place shovel and spades in form of cross over grave.
    They would go to a public house then and have some whiskey, very cheap long ago.
