- On Saint Brigid's Eve the people lay a blue ribbon on the window sill so that when Saint Brigid is passing by she will bless it. Saint Brigids feast falls on the 1st of February.
Saint Patrick's Day falls on the 17th March. On that day the Irish People wear shamrock in their coats and caps. The Shamrock does not grow in England and people who have relations and friends belonging to them in England send them Shamrock for Saint Patrick's Day.Shrove Tuesday is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday Pancakes are always made on that day. It is also known as "Pancake Tuesday."Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. On that morning the people go to the Chapel to get Blessed Ashes on their foreheads.Holy Thursday is the last Thursday of Lent. On that day Kilmore Chapel is decorated and the Children of Mary make a half an hours devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.Good Friday is the day on which Our Lord was crucified. Prayers are held in every Chapel on that day and the kissing of the Cross takes place.(continues on next page)
