  1. Ballymagir Castle.
There stands a few miles from Kilmore a heap of ruins which hold as much historic interest for us as the other towering castles which are scattered through Forth.
Ballymagir Castle was the ancient seat of the Devereux family.
The Whittys of Ballytiegue Castle and the family were inter-married.
The Earl of Essex who was sent by Queen Elizabeth to subdue Hugh O'Neill was a descendant of the Devereux Family, he is supposed to have spent some time in this castle.
The Devereux family are supposed to have been descended from an old Devereux family in Co. Louth - one of these Devereux's is to supposed to have been grandfather to the Earl of Essex.
