  1. Every person long ago made their own candles.
    They used to make them from a substance called tallow. This substance was rendered down to a liquid state and then a cotton wick was got and dipped into it and allowed to form a certain thickness. They were allowed to cool for ten or fifteen minutes and hung up in bundles.
    These candles were called tallow candles.
