  1. Practically all children went during the finer part of the Year in their bare feet.
    They generally remained barefooted till they were seventeen years of age
    Long ago factory-made boots were practically unknown in this Parish. Shoemakers were numerous and good crafts men
    The Clog or wooden Shoe was very generally worn for every day use. Old people still maintain that the clog is warmer than the all-leather model
    The wooden Shoes were made in one piece and they were loose-fitting
    They were difficult to walk in owing to the unelasticity of the wooden Sole
    Wooden Shoes are still worn by a few people in this area
    Men working in the land wore Straw-Straps around their feet and up to ther knees.
    When boots came out they continued wearing the Straw Straps
