    Lime burning
    was extensively practised by farmers. The lime stone was drawn from Slade about 20 miles distant
    There are still many disused lime Kilns to be seen in this neighbourhood

    Scythes and reap hooks were used up to about 40 years ago when they were superseded by machines.
    "Quantity of hay mown by a Good Scythesman varied from 1/2 an acre to 3/4 per day.
    One acre of corn was considered a good day's work for one man.

    Nettle and Dandeloin wines were brewed in those days and were accounted good thirst quenchers as well as being good for the blood.
