  1. Nicholas Ryan fought in the Battle of New ROss in '98. He was a native of Mullinderry and is buried in Owenduff.
    At the time of the famous battle at Ross this boy had reached his eighteenth year and was six feet high in his stockinged feet. The part he took in the battle was loading the guns for his comrades.
    His sorrow at the loss of the great battle was so great that up to the day he died at sixty four years he always cried and lamented about it when he got drink.
