The old-time "Quilting Frame"
The women long ago made their own 'bed-spreads'. They patched all colour pieces together in the most intricate way making most fantastic designs. They took a great pride in these 'patchwork' quilts as they were called. When the 'patch' was completed, they were lined or backed with a linen or cotton sheet 'Twas then the "quilting frame" was needed. The stitching of the lining to the 'patch' was an art in itself. Both where 'straited' in the frame and stitchery in mitres (as indicated) was put in the coloured thread. This took a long time. The edges were then bound with ribbon and the patchwork quilt was completed
