Once upon a time Lough Lane a most beautiful lake in a lonely part of Westmeath and the nearest Railway Station to it is Old-castle.
There are three Islands on it Monks Island, Nuns Island and Castle Island.
We are told in the year of 804 an extraordinary happened to Lough Lane, without any cause it was turned into blood for the space of nine days.
The horrified people came to examine it saw all round it masses of clotted gore floating on the surface.
