  1. About one mile from the town of Granard in the direction of Abbeylara there was once a man who was coming home from playing cards. As he drew near his home he met a tall ugly kind of a man. He passed no remarks on him. Just as the man passed him, he got weak.
There was no one around to save him. In the morning a postman found him lying dead beside an old gate. So there was a beautiful monument erected in the place where his body was discovered. A place called Árd-na-Con.
