  1. In most parts of the country the standing dash churn is used that is the churn with the dash that you pull up and down. In this churn you put the dash, which has a long handle, through the lid and there is a little instriment which you put the dash through and leaves it sitting on the lid that is called the "claibin". They are only used on the standing dash churn.
    It is said that if a person comes in and goes out while you are churning without putting a hand on the dash he is said to bring the butter with him.
