  1. The people had a big flat stone along a river or stream. There was a big "bathe" or wooden affair used for striking the clothes when washing them. The woman went to the stream to wash the clothes. The "possed" them in the stream and taking them out again gave them a soft roll and put them in the "bathing" stone. Then she gave them several strokes, turned them and hit away. She turned them round and round beating them thoroughly. She then rinsed them and spread them out to bleach.
