  1. About three hundred years a go a party of workmen were engaged in building a ditch in Fihore, County Longford. They made a deep trench and one of them dug up what he thought was a horse's shoe. He left it one side so it lay there for some time. The Engineer in charge of the job came one day and saw the old shoe. He asked who got the old shoe or where did it come from. The man told him. He examined it and told them it was a collar of gold that used to be worn hundreds of years ago. He took it to the National Museum in Dublin and the man who found it was rewarded.
