  1. A young girl named Gertie Boylan was drowned in Arva lake over two years ago. She was bathing in Arva about twenty yards from the shore. She got caught in a rock and the waves dragged her out into the lake where no one could hear her screaming and so she got drowned. A young man named Charles Smyth went out to rescue her and was almost drowned himself. She was taken ashore and arrived home to Mr Morris's shop where she had formerly been employed.
