  1. About ten years ago the largest shop in the town of Arva, County Cavan was burned. It belonged to the late Mr McGee. The fire was caused by the explosion of a petrol lamp. A boy who was pumping it had no experience of lighting such lamps.
Every thing in the shop was burned. "Furniture and all kinds of groceries were burned. A telephone message was sent for the fire brigade to Athlone. The fire brigade did not arrive there in time and the whole premises was consumed.
